Final Stats
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After taking an early lead, the Belmont Bruins (2-15-0) allowed seven runs in the fourth inning in the first game of a double header against Tennessee State (4-10-0) to eventually fall to the Tigers by a score of 8-4.
The Bruins got on the board in the fourth inning after an Erin Gier (Ashville, N.C.) single drove in senior Sara Bentley (Springfield, Tenn.). A double by junior Kelley Cash (Hudson, Ohio) later in the inning drove in three more runs, giving the Bruins a 4-1 advantage.
Nevertheless, the lead was short lived. Three hit batters, two walks, and a wild pitch contributed to the Bruins downfall as the Tigers took advantage of the Belmont mistakes by posting seven runs in the inning.
Belmont was not able to recover from the inning and eventually fell to the Tigers by a score of 8-4.
The Tigers out hit the Bruins in the game 9-7. The Bruins also had one error to Tennessee State's none.
Belmont immediately turned around to face off against Tennessee State in the second game of their double header.
