CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont men's tennis team picked up their first victory of the season as they defeated Abilene Christian 4-3 in a neutral site match played Friday in Clarksville, Tennessee.
The Bruins picked up the first point of the match as they won two of three doubles matches. At number one, Renato Antun and Navarro Veys beat Guilherme Gesser and Jason Proctor 8-4, while at number three, Bruno Silva and Henrik Claesson defeated Bonja Corts and Marco Bensley 8-5.
In singles, Belmont held off an ACU rally by picking up three singles wins to clinch the match victory 4-3. At number two, senior Henrique Norbiato beat Borja Cortes 6-3, 6-1. Then at number five, freshman Henrik Claesson won in straight sets over Marco Bensley 6-3, 6-2. The victory was sealed when senior Fernando Mussolini won in three sets over Guilherme Gesser 6-3, 4-6, and 11-9.
Belmont (1-2) will be back in action in a couple weeks when they play at Vanderbilt on Sunday, February 24th.
