Softball Captures Series Finale Sunday vs. Eastern Kentucky

RICHMOND, Ky. -- Belmont Softball earned its first-ever victory over Eastern Kentucky Sunday afternoon as the Bruins defeated the Colonels, 3-1, in the weekend series finale at Gertrude Hood Field.

Eastern Kentucky took the early advantage in the second inning when EKU left fielder Sarah Fobbs scored on a Belmont wild pitch.

Belmont tied up the contest shortly after in the top of the third off an RBI single to left field from Jessica Wilson (Alvin, Tex.).

The Bruins took the lead in the fourth inning as Belmont took advantage of a pair of EKU errors as BU scored two runs to jump ahead, 3-1.

Belmont (12-25, 6-10 OVC) held EKU hitless the rest of the way as the Bruins captured the three-game series finale.

Starting BU pitcher Taylor Moon (7-8) was credited with the win for the Bruins as the sophomore threw for six innings allowing a single run off four hits.

Carolyn Snodgress (Torrance, Calif.) came in and sealed the deal for BU in the seventh inning and was credited with the save, her second of the season.

Belmont will be back in action this Friday as the Bruins return home for an OVC doubleheader vs. Eastern Illinois starting at noon CT.
