NASHVILLE, Tenn. – With the regular season getting underway in exactly one week, the Belmont University men's soccer program makes the drive to west Tennessee Friday for its second and final dress rehearsal of the preseason. The Bruins take on the Tigers of Memphis at 7 p.m. at the Memphis Track and Soccer Complex.
What's Bruin
- Starting preseason training last Wednesday, Belmont began exhibition play this past Monday at E.S. Rose Park in Nashville where the Bruins defeated The University of Alabama in Huntsville 3-1.
- Sophomore forward Austin Yowell on a header, along with sophomore midfielder Michael Saunders and senior forward Niccolo Dagnoni on strikes all scored in Monday's preseason affair against the Chargers.
- Earlier this week, Belmont was picked in a tie for third with Mercer in the Southern Conference's preseason coaches poll. The Bruins reached their first-ever conference tournament championship during the unique 2020-21 spring season after knocking off top-seeded and 25th-ranked Furman 3-1.
- A trio of Belmont seniors were tabbed preseason All-SoCon earlier this week as well with Dagnoni, midfielder Kyle Barks and goalkeeper Drew Romig making the 11-man squad.
- Like the Bruins, Friday's preseason matchup is Tigers' last exhibition contest before the regular season.
- Memphis began preseason play with a 3-1 loss to SIUE this past Sunday evening before taking on Christian Brothers Wednesday night. The Tigers went 2-8 in the spring, all against American Athletic Conference competition.
- Belmont last faced Memphis in the fall of 2019 when the Bruins hosted the Tigers at Rose Park. Friday will be Belmont's first trip to Memphis since Sept. 15, 2018.
