Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont University Softball traveled up the road to Tennessee State University on a beautiful Wednesday afternoon in Nashville. The Bruins went 1-2 on the day against the Tigers ending their eight game winning streak.

Game One

The Bruins and Tigers were going back and forth, a pitchers game for the first five innings. Cheyenne Cavanaugh opened up the game with a single hit up the middle for the Bruins, the sole hit for the Bruins in three innings.

Cavanaugh led off the fourth again securing herself a base on a line drive up the left field line. Kristen Green popped a ball past the shortstop landing in the sweet spot of the outfield to reach to give the Bruins three hits, yet still a tie game after four innings.

The game remained competitive in the fifth with neither team successfully scoring.

Baie Ensio started the Bruins off strong with a ground ball to the shortstop in the sixth. Ensio's quick speed landed her a spot on first. Cavaunaugh sent a deep double through to left center, a bobble on the ball gave Ensio an extra base to get the Bruins on the board. Abi Ledbetter reached on a throwing error from the third baseman. Noticing the ball had not returned to the pitcher, Ledbetter attempted to steal second, but ended up in a run down situation which allowed Kristen Green at third to score, 2-0.

Pitcher Alicia Veltri pitched a complete game and posted a perfect ERA with five strikeouts. Veltri closed out the game with a final strikeout to secure the win.

Belmont produced all the right plays in the field today posting no errors. The Bruins claimed victory over the Tigers with two runs on five hits.

Game Two

The Bruins got it started early in the second game. Top of the second Ellison Ollinger was walked to earn first base. Designated player Alicia Veltri drove a ball up the middle, both Ollinger and Veltri were able to advance on the throw. Baie Ensio sent a ball past the pitcher, a short stop bobble allowed Ollinger to score.

The Bruins had two hits and two walks in the third, fielder's choice plays and Cockrill caught stealing ended the inning for the Bruins. After the third pitcher Alex Clesi recorded one strikeout each of the other outs came from the Tigers flying or popping out.

Ollinger ripped a ball down the right field line to reach first in the fourth. Alicia Veltri followed with a hanging ball into right center. Two on, Audrey Lyle sent in a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners to scoring position. Adding two hits to their total the Bruins were unable to bring in Ollinger and Veltri.

The Tigers sent a triple into right field, to score two in the fifth. The quick speed of the Tigers allowed a third run to score on a throw to first base, 3-1 TSU.

Emily Cockrill knew she had to get the Bruins started with a base hit in the infield she did just that, a drop ball led her to steal second. Ollinger set a double to the fence to score Cockrill, 3-2.

Emma Summers entered the game to close for the Bruins striking out two batters. The Bruins were unable to come back, ending their eight game winning streak.
