Softball Records 30th Win of the Season

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Belmont University Softball Program (30-17, 16-9 MVC) topped Drake (21-24, 9-13 MVC) to open the weekend series and collect the team's 30^th win of the season.
 
How it Happened
Brenna Blume got things going for the Bruins with a single up the right side in the top of the first. Belmont was unable to bring her home leaving the first inning scoreless.
 
Both teams went three up, three down in the second and third leaving the score at 0-0 heading into the fourth inning.
 
Belmont got on the board in the top of the fourth off an RBI single from Emily Cockrill. The Bruins took a 1-0 lead at the end of four.
 
Drake recorded their first and only hit of the game in the bottom of the fifth. Maya Johnson and the Belmont defense were then able to secure three outs and prevent a Bulldog run. 
 
Blume continued to lead the Belmont offense by driving in a home run in the top of the sixth extending the lead to 2-0. Baie Ensio and Grace Gressly also added singles for the Bruins in the inning. Belmont was unable to bring either runner home. Johnson followed with three-straight strikeouts to hold Drake scoreless after six innings. 
 
Belmont continued to stay hot in the seventh. The Bulldogs walked Indy Cockrill before Nicole Hughes singled and advanced to second. With runners on second and third, Blume recorded a huge two RBI double to increase the Bruins' lead at 4-0.
 
Johnson recorded her 14^th strikeout of the night as Belmont secured a 4-0 win to open the weekend series. The pitcher's performance ties for season-high in strikeouts.
