NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont University Softball Program (36-13, 19-6 MVC) shutout Indiana State (18-31, 12-11) with 4-0 win on Saturday night.
How it Happened
Maya Johnson retired three-straight batters to open the game. The Bruins were unable to bring in a run in the bottom of the first leaving the score at zeros heading into the second.
Belmont broke the game open in the bottom of the third.
Brenna Blume got the Bruins started with a single up the middle.
Baie Ensio later added a single off a bunt to load the bases for Belmont. After a walk, the Bruins put the first run on the board.
Nicole Hughes and
Grace Gressly followed with RBI sacrifice flies to extend the lead to 3-0 heading into the fourth.
Neither team could plate a run in the fourth or fifth leaving the Bruins ahead by three.
Emma Barnes recorded an RBI sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth to give Belmont a four-point edge heading into the final inning.
In the seventh inning, Johnson went on to record her 18
th strikeout of the game to help secure a 4-0 win for the Bruins.
