Bruins Split Friday Doubleheader With Central Michigan

Game 2 highlighted by high scoring fifth inning

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont baseball split a Friday doubleheader against Central Michigan at E.S. Rose Park, dropping the first contest 9-3 before bouncing back with a commanding 5-2 victory in the nightcap.

The split moves Belmont to 2-4 on the young season, while Central Michigan exits the day at 4-2.

Game 1: Central Michigan 9, Belmont 3

In the opener, the Bruins struggled to overcome a massive six-run fourth inning by the Chippewas. Despite the final score, Belmont out-hit CMU 13-9, but struggled to find the timely knock with runners on base.

Belmont's offense began to click in the fifth inning when McMeans doubled and was driven in by a Morgan single. Later in the frame, Davis added an RBI single to right field to cut into the lead. The Bruins added a final run in the seventh following a single by K. Coleman, who came on to pinch-hit and immediately contributed to the box score.

Game 2: Belmont 5, Central Michigan 2

The Bruins found their stride in the second game of the day, fueled by a dominant quality start from Tate Marland and a thunderous fifth inning.

Trailing 2-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth, the Bruins' bats came alive. After Charlie Davis reached base, Landon Godsey delivered the highlight of the day, recordign a double to left field to give Belmont its first lead of the game.

Belmont added an insurance run in the seventh when Charlie Davis singled and was driven home by Brody Langlotz. On the mound, Marland earned the win, scattering six hits over six innings of work. Ridge Harvey entered in the seventh and was lights-out, allowing just one hit over the final three innings to earn the three-inning save.
