Baseball Falls to Lipscomb

Bottom of Third Sets tone for the Remainder of the Game.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Belmont dropped its Tuesday match up to crosstown rival Lipscomb on Tuesday afternoon, falling 8-2 at Ken Dugan Field.

The Bruins struck first in the opening inning when Jake Maddox (2-3, 1 RBI) drove in Landon Godsey with an RBI single, but the early momentum was quickly answered by Lipscomb, which tied the game in the bottom half and then seized control with a decisive third inning.

Lipscomb plated four runs in the third, capitalizing on timely extra-base hits and a Belmont error to build a 5–1 advantage. The rally included a run-scoring triple and double in consecutive at-bats, forcing an early pitching change and putting Belmont in catch-up mode for the remainder of the afternoon.

Belmont trimmed the deficit in the sixth inning. Maddox sparked the rally with a triple to center field, and JD Whitworth followed with an RBI single to make it 5–2. However, that would be the last scoring opportunity the Bruins could convert.

Whitworth (2-2 ,1 RBI) and Charlie Davis (2-4) each collected two hits to lead Belmont's seven-hit effort, while the Bruins drew four walks but stranded several runners and struck out 10 times.

Lipscomb extended its lead with three runs in the seventh inning, taking advantage of defensive miscues to score multiple unearned runs and push the margin to 8–2. Belmont committed three errors in the game, compared to a clean defensive performance by Lipscomb.

Belmont starter Cole Kenyon (0–1) took the loss after allowing four runs over 2.1 innings. The Bruins used five pitchers in total, combining for six strikeouts.
Lipscomb reliever Jackson Lee (1–0) earned the win with a strong five-inning outing, allowing one run while striking out seven to stabilize the game after the first inning.
