Baseball Sweeps in Doubleheader on Saturday

Two Wins Headlined by Davis and Langlotz Offensive Performances

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Belmont earned a doubleheader sweep with Georgia State on Saturday at E.S. Rose Park, grinding out an 8–7 win in the opener before riding an offensive explosion to a 16–3 victory in game 2.

Game 1:

Belmont used a decisive middle-inning surge and held off a late push to claim the first game of the day, 8–7. After falling behind 2–0 early, the Bruins answered in the third inning with RBI singles from Charlie Davis and Cavan McMeans to even the score. Belmont then broke the game open in the fourth, plating five runs. Davis delivered an RBI double before Landon Godsey launched a three-run homer to give the Bruins a 7-2 lead. Georgia State responded with a three-run fifth inning and added two more in the sixth to trim the margin to one, but Belmont's bullpen closed the door down the stretch.

Owen Cavey earned the win with four innings of great work, and Ridge Harvey struck out five over the final two innings to secure the save. Davis led the offense with two hits, two RBIs, and two runs scored, while Godsey finished 2-for-2 with three RBIs. McMeans added two hits as Belmont totaled eight hits and created six walks to create consistent pressure.

Game 2:

The Bruins' offense erupted in the second game, scoring 14 runs in the first two innings on the way to a 16–3 rout. Belmont sent 12 batters to the plate during an eight-run first inning, highlighted by run-scoring doubles from Godsey and Mike Sprockett and a bases-clearing triple from Davis. The Bruins followed with six more runs in the second, capped by Brody Langlotz two-run homer that stretched the lead to 14-0 and put the game out of reach early. Belmont piled up 15 hits in the contest, with Davis driving in five runs, Langlotz collecting three hits and three RBIs, and Godsey adding three hits and two RBIs. Michael Lareau also contributed three RBIs as part of a balanced attack.

On the mound, Lake Morris struck out six over four innings to earn the win, while Zane Brown tossed three shutout innings in relief to finish the game.
