Men's Soccer Battles App State to Draw, Captures 2013 Lipscomb Invitational Title

Box Score

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University men's soccer went the distance with Appalachian St. Sunday afternoon, earning a 1-1 draw in its final game of the 2013 Hyatt Place Select Lipscomb Invitational held at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex.

The Bruins were the early agressor in the match as a corner kick by senior midfielder Nico Olsak (Boca Raton, Fla.) was knocked in by freshman defender Nat Hubert (Chichester, England) to give Belmont the early 1-0 advantage just under 15 minutes into play.

The goal was Hubert's first of his collegiate career while Olsak, Belmont's all-time leader in assists, notched his second assist on the season, the 24th of his career.

Appalachian St. (1-1-5) answered the early Bruin strike in the 28th minute of the first half when a pass from forward Trey Hemphill was tipped in by midfielder Donovan Japp as the Mountaineers tied the match at 1-1.

Neither teams could find the back of the net the rest of the way as Belmont (3-2-1) earned its first draw of the season.

ASU held a slim shot advantage (14-11) while the two teams were even on shots-on-goal (4-4). BU's Raphael Colmanette (Sao Paulo, Brazil) continued his strong play on the weekend as the forward notched a match-best five shots, three of which were on goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Grayson Rector (3-2-1) recorded three saves on the afternoon for the Bruins.

This was Belmont's second overtime match on the season as the Bruins needed one overtime to defeat Missouri State, 2-1, earlier this month at Rose Park.

With UCA's 2-0 victory over Lipscomb in the final match of the day, Belmont was named the 2013 Hyatt Place Select Lipscomb Inviational champions. The Bruins recorded a 1-0-1 record over the two-day invitational at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex.

Belmont returns to action this Wednesday as the Bruins travel to Birmingham, Ala. for a 7 p.m. tilt against No. 20 UAB.

NOTES: Colmanette was named Tournament MVP, while Hubert, Olsak and Rector were named All-Tournament Team ... This marks the fourth consecutive season that Belmont men's soccer has won a regular season tournament.
