NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's tennis team picked up their first win of the season as they defeated local rival Tennessee State 6-1 in a match played Friday at Hadley Park Tennis Center.
Belmont earned the first point of the match as they earned wins at the top two positions.  At one, freshman
Mia Jones and graduate student
Cielo Tapia-Cruz beat Victoria Cooksey and Claudia Murdasanu 6-3.  Then at two, freshman
Ketevan Jeladze and sophomore
Savannah Webster defeated Jovana Nikolic and Aroa Castillo 6-2.
In singles, the Bruins posted victories in five of the six matches to clinch the 6-1 win over the Tigers.  At one, Webster beat Nikolic 6-3, 6-4.  Then at two, Jones swept Julie Tungamarial 6-1, 6-4.  Cruz won at three over Cooksey 7-5, 6-1.  At four, Jeladze outlasted Natalie Walsh 6-3, 7-6.  Then at six, senior
Libbie Hamilton deferated Murdasanu 6-4, 6-1.Â
The women's tennis team (1-6) is back in action next Friday as they host Chattanooga at 5:30 p.m. at the Ensworth Tennis Center.
