Brooke Garter's Historic Day Headlines Women's Track & Field at MVC Outdoor Championships

Distance Runner Earns Two Medals and MVC Elite 18 Award

CARBONDALE, Ill. - - Belmont University women's track & field shined Sunday as the 2025 Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships came to a close from Lew Hartzog Track & Field Complex.

Belmont recorded six Top-5 finishes Sunday – including four podiums – in another fine conference meet for the Bruin program.

This coming after Grace Litzinger earned gold in the 3000m steeplechase and Kate Briscoe took home bronze in the javelin Saturday.

The Bruins were headlined by Brooke Garter, who delivered one of the finest afternoons of running in recent memory.

At 1:45 p.m., the senior earned silver in the 1500m in a time of 4:18.74, missing out on gold and a personal record by an eyelash due to the outstanding performance of Bradley's Kaitlyn Sheppard.

Then roughly two hours later, Garter dug deep and won gold in a dramatic 5000m race, holding off Sheppard and Drake's Tyla Lumley for top billing.

To cap the remarkable meet, Garter was named MVC Women's Elite 18 Award Recipient – given to the top female track student-athlete in the conference.

Garter holds a 4.0 grade-point average in mathematics.

Not to be outdone, Rebekah Stucker added to her record-breaking Belmont career and medal count by earning gold in the hammer throw.

The senior recorded a program-record mark of 62.09m – coming within a stone's throw of the MVC Outdoor Championship standard that has held for over a decade.

Logan Gray likewise bolstered her impressive career podium count, earning silver in the shot put with a program-record mark of 16.55m in a duel with Northern Iowa's Katie Fare.

Gray also placed fourth in the hammer throw with a personal-best mark of 56.64m.

Sophia Harvey earned fifth place in the 800m with a time of 2:12.25.

Belmont finished seventh in the team standings with 73 points; Indiana State won the conference team title.

Belmont will await final qualifying times and marks for the 2025 NCAA East Region meet in the Jacksonville, Florida, May 28-31.
