NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University women's track & field shined this weekend at the Outdoor Music City Challenge hosted by Vanderbilt University.
Â
With Mother Nature impacting event schedules and locations, several Bruins managed record-breaking efforts and season-best times and marks.
Â
Belmont was headlined by distance runner
Brooke Garter, who broke the school record in the 1500m in 4:18.34 to place second in a strong field. Garter's time eclipsed the Belmont record which had stood for nearly a decade. She stands third in the MVC 1500m standings, within an eyelash of top billing heading to conference.
Â
Garter also ran a personal-best time of 2:09.20 in the 800m, fractions off teammate
Alexa Fortman's school record.
Â
Rebekah Stucker continued her remarkable form with a "collegiate clean sweep" in her three throwing events over the weekend. In particular, her discus mark of 46.82m was noteworthy given the weather conditions.
Â
Stucker will enter conference as the favorite in the hammer throw, with an opportunity to medal in discus and shot put.
Â
Grace Litzinger placed fourth in the 5000m with a personal-best time of 16:45.61; she stands sixth in the MVC while also ranking second in the 3000m steeplechase.
Â
Carson Wasemiller also recorded a PR in the 3000m steeplechase.
Â
Other notable finishes included
Lilie Fouts posting a personal-best time of 4:34.78 in the 1500m.
Â
Nicola van der Merwe posted a personal-best mark in the pole vault.
Â
Bella Dormier and
Betsy Gordon each achieved a personal-best time in the 800m.
Â
Belmont returns to action May 17-18 in the Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships.
